Feb. 9th, 2008 12:11 amSince Z is busy playing Apple 2e games..
Thurs: Flight to Chch in evening. Uneventful appart from catching up with
manus.
Fri: Early bus to Lyttleton then walked most of the way to V&M's place. Picked up car. A visit to the Supershed and a cheap rimu bookcase. The usual disassembly in the carpark (as you do). Stuff pick up then shopping in town, with successful resisting buying blue wool from Kutwells. Eventually made it out to Staveley by mid afternoon, picked up more stuff and the with slight traffic delays near Belfast, made it out to site by ~6pm. Setting up tents won over dinner (dangerous choice, luckily no homicide), but was followed up with dinner at the Amberley Pub with the slightly tipsy
alpha_angel and not_an_elf who had earlier come to the conclusion that did not quite equal dinner. Mong and vigil conversations lit lateish.
Sat: Slept in ish, though Z had caligraphy to do (this was somewhat of a recurring feature of the event). Opening court and sewing in the camp after. Trebuchet playing with disaterous consewuences for
anagathic's shield. Luttrell Psalter facsimile (drool). Served at feast in good company in the evening. Late night talking in the Mong. I suspect that was the night of drunken aussie hedgehog hunting.
Sun: Slept in til 8ish. Court -
realityadmin wreathed in a white scarf and Isobel Marie (?sp) laurelled - congrats to all :). The order of the member of Prometheus - interesting badge ideas. Lunch nap, grumpy in that silly 5 year old attention seeking sulky way, but recovered durring food prep and the market. Ambushed by last years t-shirts and sold 3 cloaks - YAY!!! Corset class, dinner, changed for ball and danced after the Fighter Auction. Really liked the last 2 dances (tag games/chasing people - Negri?) - much fun for special occasions I think. Then some singing and talking in the Mong til lateish (~3am).
Mon: Up ~9am. Z off to pick up industrial sewing machine and show some itinerant Aussies the cloud covered wet scenery. I lurked in the rain (nice and dry in oilskin cloak and hood, gloat gloat) and after finding myself tired and noticing the warning grumpy signs, had a nap between 2:30pm and 6pm - really needed that. Z got back at dinner. Cannon testing in the evening - not the highest accuracy instrument, but much fun. Full on Mong singing, starting with the period part music and moving to the folk after midnight and the dodgy stuff til 3am.
Tues: Up ~9am. Z making coracle - willow cutting frenzy. Lunch and more loitering and talking while Z had his first Laurel meeting (Ha ha.) I did dinner prep while Z continued with coracle as
alpha_angel was nice enough to cover for him. Dinner. Pirate court and trebuchet. Trebuchet and rock melon. Lovely impact noise and lovely splat which only got a bit on one of the fighter's legs. Coracle finished enough to test int he waterhole, so Z and
anagathictried it out. Floated (others have the photographic evidence of it and laurels in wet tunics), though definitely more suited to the lighter weights. Talked til late. Bells, knights ringbarking trees with their pointy pointy teeth, buns, corpora and sockhose puppets on youtube - guess you just had to be there. Talking til slightly less late.
Weds: Pack up. Sigh. We took things slow, steady and relaxed, which was ok appart from the fact that we got to Staveley 5:30-6pm, needed to add oil to the car, and didn't quite make it to Lyttleton by the projected time. Luckily a backup plan was hurridly hatched and worked, with car storage and a ride to the airport. Uneventful flight met in time and made it home safely.
Still haven't caught up on sleep which is obviously why I am up at 12:41am and need to be places by 8:30am.
Z still demonstrating old computer games. Silly Z. He may be some time.
