I suspect a few people I know would be interested in this.
De Re Metallica: The Uses of Metal in the Middle Ages
ed by Robert Bork, Scott Montgomery, Carol Neuman De Vegvar, Ellen Shortell, Steven Walton.

I noticed it when googling for the following title on Iron smelting*
'Ore, Fire, Hammer, Sickle: Iron Production in Viking Age and Early Medieval Iceland' by Kevin Smith via a mention here, but it appears to be a 23 essay collection on a range of subjects related to metals. Apparently La Trobe Uni (Bundoora Campus, Borchardt Library) has a copy**.

Going for about $100 US on Amazon though. Ditto though its publisher (Ashgate). Though if you wish to drool more, check out their recent publishing catalogues. The Medieval Studies catalogue for 2007 (pdf, 960kB) has some very nice sounding, very expensive conference proceedings and books***.

* Yes, I chase up odd stuff, some of which Z is probably more interested than I but still...
** Another reason to go there, given the Viking Rus book [livejournal.com profile] pearl linked to.
*** Including one on "Studies in Medieval Astronomy and Optics" by (or ed) J. L. Mancha (2006) and one in "The Archeology of Medieval Bookbinding" by (or ed) J. A. Szirmai (2007) and ...

Edit: And Vic Uni library here has a copy (TS225.2 G3 D278). They also have a copy of the translation of the 1556 latin manuscript on the same subject of that name too (TN144 A278 D). Anyone know anyone with Victoria University library borrowing access?

A while back I linked to an archeological for sale site with really cool finds. Of course it was bookmarked at work, not home, and I can't quite be arsed digging out the harddrive to find it. But while searching LJ entries for it, I did find the Council for British Archeology publications list which includes a large collection of online issues (linked to but not explored back here).
So far fun stuff has included:
Anglo-Saxon pottery: a symposium (1959)
Viking Age York and the North (1978) - especially "Industry and commerce in Anglo-Scandinavian York
by Arthur MacGregor(pp 37-57)". Annoying the articles come in small pdf sections so you need to download several for the full article, but worth it.

Their online library catalogue is a good point to start poking...

They also have databases such as:
Excavations at the Viking Barrow Cemetery at Heath Wood, Ingleby, Derbyshire, 1998-2000 J.D. Richards, 2004
with the article available here.

You know you have found an interesting series of journal articles when "World Archeology" has an issue on archeometallurgy, followed by one on hoards and hoarding...

I am having a very good binge on JSTOR - it started with googling for the "Senmurv Kaftan" and with the introduction of Uni access to the JSTOR archive and just ran away from there... Pity I have a conference to attend tommorrow, otherwise I might be here a lot longer (though reached the end of the World Archeology collection). 31 articles ranging from archaeomusicology of Scandinavia, to flint butchery, to glass, to the history of York's sewerage system. And we have some nice articles on an extant 8th - 9th century Alanic caftan. And the doll clothing from a similar burial...

Only 98 MB...

Good end to a weekend. Rest of the time spent sorting photos, lamenting the effects of rain on drying laundry and giggling at "V for Vendetta".

Midnight, so sleep now.

Having had 15 min soaking in sunlight for lunch*, now have until 2pm (15 min) to play

Swedish doublet and shirt references... who, me, consistant time period? )

Time up, back to models. The HV 11303 observations appear to have shocks in very aukward places making the models really not behave/converge. Just as well I know the 15K temperatures indicate calculation errors rather than actual stellar interior conditions.

* It is gloriously warm in the sunshine at the momment and definitely more pleasant than my office. Unfortunately the ethernet cable wont stretch out to the steps and the laptop refuses to run the models anyway. And the peach crumble leftovers were nice...

Z, getting your library card asap would be a really good idea..., especially with the last one.
