So, finished the maroon diamond wool overtunic* (yay), sat down and finished a rectangular cloak that had been sort of started (had the tablet weaving sort of attached) in early 2004 (and lived on the bed ever since), and made a half circle oilskin cloak with wool lining round the shoulders. Cloak took about 2 hours and was designed to fit Z but drapes really nicely on me... I think it is the pint sized shoulders:)

So, in the interests of insuring it doesn't rain for CF, I want to make a duplicate cloak for me (at least we know the measurements work) and a hood for me from the same oilskin (which will be a bit more fiddly). The question is whether or not to do a hood for Z - if we don't, that should guarantee it will rain at some point which is good from a getting to test cloaks point of view, but not so good from a camping point of view. But if I do, it wont rain... Unless someone else has crap wet weather gear and/or dodgy tent waterproofing (which might be us) to bring the odds back in favour.

Decisions decisions...

At least we are now borrowing an anvil or two rather than bringing one over - Z broke hacksaw blades in an attempt to convert a piece of railway iron...

*Have to watch playing snap with Z and the matching tunics - first time in 6 years I have made matching garb, appart from the graduation stuff...

Doing everything you can to deter rain is a good idea, coz the forecasts sure don't look promising!

Got a good online long range forecast? - the Metservice one I saw for Chch only went up to Weds and that was for early rain then to NW.

Current MetService one is "Wednesday: South Island, rain spreading up the west coast, with some heavy falls. Scattered falls spreading across into the eastern districts." TV forecast for Wednesday indicated rain. And the way things have been going, a sudden change to bright sunny weather isn't really the way to bet.

I've bought extra tarps in hopes the weather wil turn sunny to spite me...

As long as the standard southerly following a NWster arrives Fri (well after set up) and it doesn't rain Mon-Tues cause packing wet tents is a bastard, it should be ok...

Has the current less than wonderful Chch weather been Easterly? If so, should be nicer in Waipara then as it's further inland...

But it has been a while since I was monitoring Canterbury weather patterns...

Z was contemplating bringing an _anvil_ over.

No, I guess I'm not really surprised... :-)

Well, I've often wanted a small (as in less than half a kilo) stake anvil, and I had this bit of railway iron of the right size to build it out of, but unfortunately where it was gas-torched off the rail it actually hardened up remarkably (railway iron usually is ok to cut with a hacksaw). As I'm not set up for hot cutting at the moment, I tried the hacksaws anyway, but failed.

So I'm borrowing instead. I think I'll probably end up leaving a full set of tools in NZ too.

And unfortunately it looks like for Thurs - "Cloudy. Morning drizzle, cool southerly developing.

More cloaks and hood required...

Friday is supposed to be better, though.
