So, finished the maroon diamond wool overtunic* (yay), sat down and finished a rectangular cloak that had been sort of started (had the tablet weaving sort of attached) in early 2004 (and lived on the bed ever since), and made a half circle oilskin cloak with wool lining round the shoulders. Cloak took about 2 hours and was designed to fit Z but drapes really nicely on me... I think it is the pint sized shoulders:)

So, in the interests of insuring it doesn't rain for CF, I want to make a duplicate cloak for me (at least we know the measurements work) and a hood for me from the same oilskin (which will be a bit more fiddly). The question is whether or not to do a hood for Z - if we don't, that should guarantee it will rain at some point which is good from a getting to test cloaks point of view, but not so good from a camping point of view. But if I do, it wont rain... Unless someone else has crap wet weather gear and/or dodgy tent waterproofing (which might be us) to bring the odds back in favour.

Decisions decisions...

At least we are now borrowing an anvil or two rather than bringing one over - Z broke hacksaw blades in an attempt to convert a piece of railway iron...

*Have to watch playing snap with Z and the matching tunics - first time in 6 years I have made matching garb, appart from the graduation stuff...

And vaguely attempt to organise myself...

We have a kilo of shrapnell from previous NZ trips - remind me which coins are have changed and which are still legal. I did link to it in LJ when it first came out but didn't tag it (bad me). Also, is it a particular bank or any bank for changing the buggers?

Is there anything (drinkies/party-like) scheduled for Tues - Fri (6-9 Feb)? - We fly out early Sat morning on the 10th...

Started (well, continued really) making lists. This one was the to-do list when we get over.
I think the Weds/Thurs are going to be fairly busy...

Thinking of quickly whipping up a hood and half circle oilskin cloak each this weekend (yay to borrowing a very nice industrial sewing machine). Debating over whether to inset neck hole and I will be evil and not include a lirapipe in the hoods (despite the large body of evidence that I should for hood shape for at least 12th C onwards).

Still having ongoing debate with Z over documentation for half circle cloaks in Viking era - he says yes, I say dodgy.
Evidence/sources/arguements/rants )

So, what would you say? Or would you just duck for cover and step away quietly...

Was supposed to be working on the swag...

... and my hands still smell of turpentine, linseed, beeswax and lanolin...*

Sat: Z forged tent pegs and portable holes. I bleached wool (dye remover worked, nappisan didn't, wet dog smell still remains), sewed cloaks and did laundry. Potential new flatmate. Nice woodfire pizza in Queayanbeyan. Thai chicken is better than smoked salmon.

Sun: The looting gods/patron saint were with Z. Trash and Treasure yielded shavers**, 2 large sun-awnings never unrolled, a saddle (for R), mixing bowls, pyrex bowl, kitchen scales***. Revolve yielded banner poles, a chuffer door, wooden bowls, bits for a lantern and wooden dippers. AuzJunk got us 16 good tent pegs, poles and some spare rope.. and some springs which we have no use for, but for $5 for the bag with pegs etc, it was worth it. Then home, lunch, Baronial Monthly thing where a lack of forms meant no authorisation for Z (arranged for later), but did sell 4m wool to T, and 5 m wool to M (to be collected later) and 4 m to ? (already collected). Then we went home and waterproofed a tent****. It has taken over the clothesline, to the detriment of the load of washed sheets that is only now being hung out on racks - I would have washed sheets today... Dinner and talking to N on Skype. Doco on Roman and earlier seige weapons. Failed to finish the 4th cloak (tying knots knots knots knots), but as kept falling asleep in front of TV, not suprising.

Sleep now I think, otherwise the spelling error will get far more atricious...

* Tent waterproofing in case you wish to know.
** Spokeshaves according to the expert who had to correct the spelling twice. That may be a hint.
*** Apparently I missed 2 splitting wedges, a set of wood carving chisels, 8 brass spoons, and a little knife for reforging. And apparently some things were resisted too.
**** This involved spray bottles, a mix that looked a lot like orange juice but really didn't smell like it, and a lot of bending over and rubbing.

### Z would like his recipe recorded for posterity but he can do that in his own journal thank you and besides, at this time of night, you don't want to think what units things will be transformed to...

Really goodnight now.
