So, bookshops...
Dec. 28th, 2006 01:09 amSlight bookshop tour today. The first wasn't open when we went past. The second was a good Wellington level of second hand bookshop - didn't buy anything, but that sort of range. Went back to the hole in the wall first one - nice selection. Known Space Books, (now) 26 Blyth St. Good selection of SF which is in the process of being unpacked. Spot the fact the owner is a fan - hours are noon - 6pm Weds - Sat, with being open til 10pm on Fri nights. Nothing bought but will be returning. Next stop Rundle Mall and Adelaide Booksellers - which is shut over Christmas/New Years. Hmph. Borders for Z while I braved the mobs at JB Hi Fi and bought An Ancient Muse*. I then caught up with him and together we swore at the prices and wandered out without buying anything. Then the book exchange down the side alley near Dymocks (? forget the exact coordinates). Much better prices and actually found some interesting stuff. Worth going back to with stuff to exchange, though nowhere near as cheap as Church Corner Book exchange - I miss that one. Z bounced with a new Charles Stross (The Family Trade). Then Dymocks - Z grumbled over the wrong Eric Flint selection, found an SM Sterling he wanted, then found books 4 and 5 of of a napolionic naval fiction series** he had books 1 and 2 of. Nothing at Angus Robertson. Back to check Borders for Napolionic naval fiction to fill the gap - no luck. At which point it was around 4pm and time to head home.
There were vague plans to head off towards Canberra tomorrow, but brain-deadness and good books have intervened wrt getting the car ready. Late tomorrow or day after tomorrow departure I suspect.
* Nice music but bloody "Enhanced CD" which doesn't appear to want to play using WinAmp or MediaPlayer - fine through the DVD player and the TV though. Mutter mutter mutter. At least we collect the stereo with the functioning CD player in Canberra.
**I'd name the author, but I would need to see the cover and Z hasn't let them out of his hot little hands since we got home. He finished the first a little while ago and will take a torch and read the second one under the covers if I don't watch out.
