Oops, I should check LJ log ins more carefully. Z may have been eligable for the [livejournal.com profile] longhair community a couple years ago eg here, but not exactly now...

I'm in the longhair community, and my hair is only 43mm long. Considering it was only 19mm 7 weeks ago, that's doing pretty well.

Ah but I suspect you want yours to get a bit longer whereas Z is ruthlessly trimming his back before it hits longer than a cm...
How is the BS and ACV regime going? How does it compare to previous hair states?

Going really well. My hair is feeling really soft and thick, and I've gotten rid of my dandruff. I'm currently seeing how long I can go in between BS washes without it getting greasy. I used some last Sunday, and only used ACV since, and it's still not greasy. I haven't used shampoo in seven weeks (except for once just after Festival where I just used whatever was in the shower - hair felt like shite after, and my scalp broke out in pimples)

So you aren't quite going the full water only method? Or just did that initially?

Now think of the amounts of money spent on trying to pursuade you that your hair will only be this happy and healthy with expensive formulations and combinations... And how much you are now not giving to said companies:)

Must find someone to pass on the couple bottles of Pantene conditioner that I have (1 work, one home). It is nice that one of the budget brands (~$2-3 per litre) has good ingredients. I suspect my hair prefers conditioners and trying to get my length to change over to BS and ACV only would be a little nightmareish.

I got distracted by the baking soda method, and now I'm discovering that my hair stays pretty clean with just the ACV rinse - besides it smells nice.
Let's see 500g of baking soda costs $1.80. I use 1 T with a cup of water, but I use about an eighth of that in one wash and keep the rest in a bottle to use later, and I'm only doing that once a week. 1 L of apple cider vinegar was about $5. I use 1 T of that per cup, and use an eighth of that too, so that lasts a week.

I'm interested to see how my hair handles the shampoo-free method when it gets longer.

Suspect it will depend how well the natural oils propagate down the hair shafts...
I probably use about 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar, 1 T honey in the base of a 1 l jar, 3/4 filling it in the shower after I get in. It ends up just being slowly poured over the length between shampoo and main conditioning.
But then there is a fair amount of hair to be coated...

How often are you doing that?

Once a week at present, ie only when I wash my hair. This Sat was the 3rd such wash in a row, so I will see how the hair is handling it.

I presume you're showering in between times, do you let your hair get wet? If you do, you could try using the ACV rinse then, without the shampoo & conditioner.

Showering on a daily basis inbetween but very actively try not to get the hair wet*. Takes too bloody long to dry, which was initially why I only washed it once a week.
* Hair is normally in a plait and said plait is clipped to the top of my head for showering. Adept at keeping the head out of the main water blast.
