stellar_muddle: (geteld. Festival 2007)
(Though using the Geteld icon for the post is sort of cheating since it was in bunks...)

Fri after work: out to site eventually after much packing (does anyone else have the issue of chests need to be unpacked, the contents transferred to another chest, then filled with different stuff before loading into the car? This was a 4 chest event - 1 garb (shared), 1 feast (shared), 1 each projects... it was only a weekend event...). Dinner and up talking til midnightish. All good :).

Sat (Z's birthday): Frosty night. Crispy out. Breakfast and much sitting around talking with people, generally while embroidering. Lunch. Run to local supermarket with [livejournal.com profile] alpha_angel for the odds and sods forgotten eg cordial (for hot and cold non alcoholic, non caffinated drinking), fruit etc. More broidery and talk. Kubb which was fun and the oak set made a glorious clunk noise when things were knocked over properly. Feast in evening then much of the evening (couple hours...) spent singing in the corridor with [livejournal.com profile] alpha_angel just working our way through song books, starting on the period collections and then moving on. Music discussions after and pumpkined midnightish. . Sunny start to the day and some cloud and coolness off and on, but no rain.

Sun: Breakfast, talking, ropemaking, blackwork class (more discussion and looking at references and patterns with people than specific teaching), light drizzle but only briefly. Lunch and talking, packup. Snuffly nose and headache started during pack-up - grrrrr. Not helped by walking into the viking tent poles on the roof rack (at head height) after getting out of the car. Thud for a while (though not all due to the tent poles, (shower) and some car unpacking before reading on beanbag in front of the fire for much of the evening. Tagged out with Z for the computer and he has settled into the beanbag with his birthday present ("Wireless" by Charles Stross). Go thud soon.

General notes:
Little sproglets in garb do look cute. There were occasionally long strings of them on ropes and they had fun interacting with rope and pillars. And some of them only occasionally infested the Kubb field, before being safely rescued.
Remember the cordial next time. Especially when have events which can be hot and cold and just adding (hot) water is easy.
(Anglo-Saxon) Leg bindings are nice and warm (when Bobbing in an early era). They also work well over linen hose under skirts for the female clothing of the same time and keep out sandflies. Useful to remember. Need to finish the second pair of naalbinded socks.
Next time broadbrimmed hat (not a usual statement for DA).

And I said I would provide photos of the banners (well, I can link to some):
From Lady Sancha's photo collection
Me and 2 of the banners that [livejournal.com profile] basal_surge and I did. Picture stone was copied from the one Z linked to, and I did the interlace column to the left (there was another to the right). Need to thicken the black lines on the interlace at some point cause they do fade out a bit, especially by candle light.
What to do with doorways here and here, banners done mainly by Lady Sancha (with some assistance from various people), same method as the picture stone.

If you follow the photo set through, there are pigs heads, and murderous viking games with bats and ball, and woodworking (making the bats..), and flour grinding and forging*... All the usual fun stuff :)

You keep starting to go to bed and then someone links to cool stuff...

* Chalk up yet another camping event where bellows were manufactured by Z... And finishing the forge table.

Tiny little laptop has tiny little keyboard with even more potential to mistype things. But it connected happily to the internets and it will be Z playing with it (with his even bigger fingers...*).

DA was fun. PORK! Whole dead pig (gutted and registered killed) hanging from the rafters. The best bacon. Banners looked good - we misplaced camera and forgot to get photos :( Framing doorways with them works. Everyone seems to have made it back safely and had takeaways to recover... May do more of a report later, may not... And remember to pass on the links and images promised.

Time for sleep, once Z has finished transferring stuff over. Mmmmm sleep.
After Z repairs the belt that just went ping. And the other little things...

He thinks I have just the right sized fingers for it... But is torn by it being his new toy...
