So, can't let an Easter go by without playing dress-up and/or a road trip. So this time was across the Strait and over to the Omaka Classic Fighter Airshow. And got to play dress-up in WWI uniform and play with things that went BANG lots.

Thurs: Ferry at too early o'clock. In the howling southerly and squally showers. And the ferry was an hour late. Whee. Somewhat rough crossing (2.5 - 3m swell) in which Z bounced around outside and I got lots of embroidery done. Quick groceries then to the show site and setup. Some setting up. Relaxed dinner with [livejournal.com profile] margaretta in the evening and then back and sleeeeep. Cold night out but nice and warm and snuggly in sway with much blanketage.

Fri: Frosty (early - 6:30am) morning with the roar of the turbines attempting to keep the grapes from getting frosted. Noisy buggers. Yay to hot milo, muesli and warm gloves. Some shifting of tents around. Setup continued. Much shifting of (sawdust filled) sandbags. Got all uniformed up and helped with the WWI night battle. Lots of bangs. Closer than front row seats for the fireworks though. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] margaretta and family for shower. Yay warm shower. Another cold frosty night, slept through fine and warm.

Sat: Same start as previous day. Mad rush to Mitre 10 for emergency equipment - they didn't seem too surprised by WWI german soldiers at 8am. Morning filled with WWI scenario - loiter in the front lines for a while, punctuated by sudden bouts of excitement. Z played in the tank. De-wooling (wool uniforms went from just right at the cold end of the morning to rather hot by noon in the hit sun with minimal shade - just as well we had full waterbottles) then lunch. Z's nephew A was having a great deal of fun naming all the planes (I am not certain if he is three yet... and he definitely knows his planes). Some sewing and a nap in the afternoon (I slept through WWII...). Pizza dinner then general socialising. Slightly later night - we crashed at 11pm. More frost.

Sun: 7am start with another brisk morning. Again filled with WWI scenario - next time (if a next time), will bring a deck of cards. Z still playing with tank. Scenario finished round noon. De-wooling (another warm sunny day once the frost melted) and lunch then generally wandering and catching up with people and the displays. Was awake for the destruction of Monte Casino this time. General pack-up. Packed tent and car of all but the swag as the tent was dry and we were needing to get up round 6am for ferry check-in at 7am. Dinner and more socializing including watching the Kangaroo court - very silly. Pumpkined about 11pm and slept nice and warm in just the swag.

Mon: Got up ~6am, rolled swag into car and were off. Much smoother sunnier ferry sailing with much talking (and showers, yay showers). Z and D were drooling over an antique arms auction catalogue like kids in a candy shop. More embroidery. Home round noon, showers, catching up on internet, nap (~3pm - 6pm...) and tv and embroidery in the evening.

Time to get sleep in real bed now.
