Happy happy happy. Nice stack of new books to read from the library and handbag is progressing well - though may need to pause and/or not do much tonight to allow fingers recovery time. Though it isn't that much to go compared to last night's sewing.

I'd say artefact, it looks much nicer to my eyes.
(Incidentally, there's some unreferenced Wikipedia comments about the two spellings.)

Unless we're discussing the weird blurry, blocky distortions that occur when compressing images. Then I'd go with artifact. Probably I can blame American texts being used more often in my computer classes than British for that.
