Haven't done one of these in a while and need something to do while waiting for cheese toastie to cool.

Still doing the Baking soda rather than shampoo routine. Hair seems very happy with it.
So hair washing routine is currently:
Put conditioner on length of hair from shoulders down. Pour ~ 400ml water and 2t baking soda over the scalp and massage in. Rinse the lot.
Pour cider vinegar, honey, water mix over the full length. ~1/4c vinegar, 1 spoonful of honey and enough water (from the shower) to fill the 600ml bottle it is all mixed in. The honey does seem to make a difference as things are greasier if I skip it.
Conditioner over the lot and let it sit for a minute or two or three while get on with the rest of the washing.
Finger comb to get rid of tangles.
Rinse in cold water. Not pleasant but does work.
Let dry naturally over the next few hours - don't do this in the evening as it wont be dry by bed time.
Dryish ends seem to like occasional coconut oil, but otherwise, it will be fine for a week and only just need washing by then. Daily finger combing worked fine.

WRT length, it was a little longer than the base of my arse cheeks, but I decided to kill a bunch of split ends and took about 5-8cm off. So now it is past hip length. Still pretty long though.

Will probably get rehennaed shortly as the roots are at 2cm or longer.

Mmmm, cheese, egg and ham toasted sandwich.
Would post gratuitous picture of Jill looking cute and curled up on Z's current sewing project, but she wandered off well before I could grab the camera. Hence you are spared the obligatory cat/sewing/cuteness overload. Maybe some other time.

My hair still hasn't got past looking greasy and limp sans shampoo *sigh* The longest I lasted without it was a year but the greasiness just got worse. I do like the results of brushing baking soda through dry hair, but I have to wash it out sooner or later and then it looks limp and greasy again. Maybe honey would make a difference (what's the rationale behind that?). Or maybe I'm just going to have to admit that my hair doesn't suit this regime, because I'm sick of looking like I haven't washed my hair in weeks even when I washed it just this morning.

OTOH, I do like the fact that the baking soda and vinegar routine has actually banished my chronic dandruff. So it's not *all* bad...

I think the honey is for conditioning - seems to make the hair softer. I have read comments that it may lighten as well, but haven't noticed anything so far. References here are the lj longhair community though, so not the most scientifically rigorous lot.

Do you know whether it is the baking soda and/or the vinegar reducing the dandruff? For a while I was washing with shampoo, rinsing, drowning in ACV mix, then conditioning and that combo may work if the BS is too harsh.

I think it may be both of them as I was using just vinegar for a while and that didn't have the same effect. Although I was using up white vinegar til I got around to buying ACV, so it could be the switch to ACV instead.

I think I'll go back to using SLS-free shampoo/ACV rinse once a week then using dry BS and ACV rinse when necessary during the week. I guess I could also try pure soap/ACV but from what I've read it will probably be too harsh for me as well. I'd love to be able to wean my hair off shampoo forever but unfortunately I think it's only going to work if I cut it all off again :-/
