Project time.
Jul. 12th, 2011 11:59 pmCurrent projects on the go all see to be reworking items:
Tudor so I have an excuse to wear the blackworked chemise. Stalled as I need to unpick sleeves (it's ok - it is reworking an old garment (the one I graduated in)) but feeling quite unmotivated. Will need a nice brocade for the lower sleeve parts and that is a fabric type we have not been stashing. I should try and be motivated enough to use CF 2012 as a deadline for this one, but I am really not certain.
Anglo-saxon tunic. More easily motivated here. This has consisted of unpicking an old herringbone stitched viking tunic (not really documentable as constructed and the fit was naff, made in 2002(?)), recutting it to fit (big improvement), and resewing it with tablet woven cuffs and wrist clasps in the style of an early Anglian tunic (see figure 3.32, Cloth and Clothing n Early Anglo-Saxon England by Penelope Walton Rogers for wrist layout). Z had fun making the wrist clasps out of WWII era 303 brass...and they look just like the finds ones :). It was wearable for the Falcons feast (braid and wrist clasps attached in the car on the way over), but I am now properly finishing the seams and doing more of the tablet weaving for 2nd bit on the wrists and neckline. Works well with a peplos for early and warm, but can probably get away with the same tunic a couple centuries later with the right coat/overtunic/headgear/jewelry.
Z's archery string making jig works well as a frame for tablet-weaving on. Yay for multi-purpose household objects.
Want to start something new and shiny though. Would be a mid-Sept deadline though.
14th c cotehardie? Best outer layer for that would be a silk warp linen weft we have in a green and a brown. The issue being due to the small amount of each, it would need to be parti-coloured in camo colours... Still need to think about that.
Time to stop thinking and get some sleep.
