Currently at home with a snot monster eating my brain, so might as well update while sniffling.
Having not updated for a while, having fun remembering what I have been up to.

Prior to Labour weekend, there was the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary/Zealandia free open day (their usual entry prices are at the expensive end). We went on the Sunday with the howling northerly and rain, which meant the crowds were a bit thinner. Inside display wasn't bad, but the outside stuff was fun, despite the wind and rain. Many parrots (Kaka and Kakariki) and some wetas and cool lizards. Rather saturated by the end though.

Labour weekend was the Wellington Folk Festival. Much fun and a great deal of singing (10+ hours over the course of the event) and some quite good concerts. Picked up albums by Brillig (think Gothic banjo), Beyondsemble (diverse) and Enda Kenny (australian folk, can be political, can be funny). Other performances of note included Coolgrass who did truly evil bluegrass things to Mary Poppins and Hallelujah and a rather good banjo version of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody performed by BB and Alex with the audience singing along.

Came back from the festival to discover that [livejournal.com profile] basal_surge had ended up having to play mumcat to the garage kittens as their mum had abandoned them around Fri/Sat. At only 2 1/2 weeks old, definitely not old enough to fend for themselves, but luckily the local Cats Protection League had foster cats who could look after kittens and took them in. We may adopt them - still thinking about that, but nothing will happen til after they are weaned and desexed in any case (2 boys and a girl). Photos were posted to facebook (sorry haven't bothered catspamming here).

This last weekend was busy with Z's sister, her husband and twin 6 year old daughters in town.
Sat day had Yum char, a cannon display on the waterfront (Captain Cook's birth salute, then a memorial salute - BIG bangs reverberating off the surrounding buildings), and helping [livejournal.com profile] alpha_angel shift whiteware (well, Z shifted things and I snoozed in a corner as the cold started to sink in).
Sat evening was spent at the Upper Hutt fireworks with R and the girls (the candyfloss wore off the girls eventually) and Sun evening we looked after the twins while their parents went to the Leonard Cohen concert. This consisted of pizza for dinner and then going with the girls to the ballet - The Nutcracker. Was quite cool - though you could spot that the girls were getting a bit restless/tired by half way through the second half. Think they were less than impressed with the lack of tutus until the bit in the snow with the ballerinas in white tutus with tiaras, but did like the ballet overall. I quite liked the dance of the sugar plum fairies done by guys on crutches... Everyone made things look effortless, despite it clearly being not. Late night and by the end of it, the snot monster cold had settled in.

Don't know that there has been much else to report. Project wise, I settle in with the usual blackwork ruff occasionally/as a default. Looms are currently empty - suspect I am avoiding having to warp them up. Given I have one half finished sock left to naalbind to make the pair, I should really get back to that too.

But for now, having spent much of the day taking things easy and finished 2 books while on a beanbag in a patch of sunlight, I will stay hydrated and sniffle in a corner.
