Please wait...
Dec. 4th, 2008 08:53 pmThis morning was entertaining.
Got down to the station and was waiting by the usual time. About the usual time for the train to turn up, the signals and lights started going, then there was a bang, sounding a bit like the train had hit something. The train approached slowly, got 3/4 of the way past the station, stopped, didn't open its doors and then buggered off. Lots of bewildered people at the station. Turned to look back north and saw smoke pouring out of the bush across the rail crossing and to the east about 50m? up the track. Sounds like the bang was some sort of electrical thing which sparked and started a fire. It luckily didn't get any bigger and soon after the sirens started and the police and fire trucks arrived and got things under control. In the mean time several trains slowly snaked their way past, but also didn't stop. Now, some of these were expresses or diesel ones from up north that you wouldn't expect to stop, but in the 40 minutes that followed from when I got down to the station, there should have been about 3 trains stopping. About 6 went past. Eventually after quite a crowd had developed (100+ people at least), one stopped and I got into work only about 40 minutes late.
Curious.
