Yay to Sherezad - I have the right silk :) And it was a nice warm day for a quick lunchtime stroll.

Might be able to get things finished tonight - thought the current book is putting up a pretty good fight...

Finally got around to watching the Dr Who episode "Blink". Quite well done.

Dinner now...

What is a good substitute when your "wheat" bag is beginning to smell a lot like cooking rice when you heat it and is steaming a bit much? If whole wheat (I sewed the bag so have no qualms about slicing it open, draining it, washing it, drying it and refilling it with something else), where is a good place to get it?

How do you prevent the porridge from boiling over when you nuke it? 90 sec and silent goopy fountain (I did use a not very large mug...). Don't like having to clean microwave plates and wasting porridge.

The book is winning.

Edit: I should note that the wheat bag currently contains rice. Also appears not to hold heat as long as the last wheat bag, but since I bought that one (and left it in Aussie given potential MAF issues), I can't be sure of the contents.

Interesting seeing a discussion from 2 quite different angles: paranormal romance especially vampire ones via Smath Bitches, Trashy Novels and Pharyngula.

Vampire novels I have enjoyed:
Sunshine by Robin McKinley
Those who hunt the night/Traveling with the dead by Barbara Hambly
Agyar by Steven Brust
Blood Ties etc by Tanya Huff
The Fledgling by Octavia Butler
Anno Dracula etc by Kim Newman (especially The Bloody Red Baron)
Nightwatch/Daywatch/Twilight Watch by Serge Lukyanenko
LKH's Anita Blake earlier novels
The Dragon in Waiting by John M Ford
PN Elrod's Lady Crymsyn wasn't bad.
There have been a couple of the Genre paranormal Romances which were okish, but not distinct enough for me to remember/chase down the authors...
Didn't get anywhere with Anne Rice.

Any patterns?* Suggestions?

* Apart from the fact that previously I would have had to have liked other books by that author before I would try the Vampire stuff. Less of a criteria now.
