Fri evening: Finished work round 5pm, then headed off to meet Z. He was late so wandered to Arty Bees (Manners end) to meet him there. Browsed books but didn't find anything that leaped out and grabbed me. Once he arrived, headed to Flying Buritto Brothers to join various people in celebrating [livejournal.com profile] dragonermine's birthday. Nice food and good company. Really nice cheesecake. Wandered with people towards the movies (via Arty Bees again and brought books*) but not being Prince Caspian fans, headed off to the other Arty Bees (Courtney Place) and bought more books. Spent about 10 min too long at the bookshop so missed the 10pm train by 2 min. Read at the station til 11pm (ie the next train), then headed home.

Sat: Midwinter afternoon/evening at S&T's. Much food. Venison wrapped in bacon with rosemary and elephant garlic and slow roasted was very very good and very very popular. Much late night talking by a brazier in a rather smokey yurt. Late night.

Sun: Lazy day with much lounging. Have managed to bring the filing cabinet up and start filling it, but so far all that has consisted of is going over the stuff left behind when we moved to Aussie. Not certain how long it is useful to keep certain IRD and bank stuff for. I probably don't need the University of Canterbury PhD regulations any more though. Plans are afoot to put another desk in the study so Z has somewhere (warmer) to work work on calligraphy and/or set up a 2nd computer if/when we get one. But 1st need to get a table to put the TV and Video/DVD player on to free up the desk. There is a coffee table frame downstairs, but it needs some sort of top put on it. So, just need Z to clean down the 2 bits of wood for a table top, then the process can begin.

Time for garlic bread I think. And maybe leftover venison... And Top Gear Polar special...

* Z picked up Eighteenth Century Gunfounding by Melvin H. And Carel De Beer Jackson and The Story of Writing by Donald Jackson.

** We both grabbed:
The Northern World: The history and heritage of Northern Europe AD 400-1100 ed David W Wilson, The Great Migration: The movement of peoples across Europe AD 300-700 by Hans-Joachim Diesner, Sex or Symbol: Erotic images of Greece and Rome by Catherine Jones, and The Lore of Ships.
