Busy weekend...
Feb. 21st, 2005 10:21 amSo, rock shifting and sewing would be the main components of this weekend.
Sat was overcast and humid, which was not too bad for Festival site Prep at Crossroads. I shifted rocks from one pile to another, then moved to a different location and shifted more rocks. Pity the sun wouldn't play with the sundial. Z set up foundation rocks for water heater, and plans were made for Sun. Then rushed off for Patrick's Mongolian Birthday Feast. Nice food and clean clothes, then off to the Wig and Pen.
Sun day (hah!) didn't quite dawn so much as drizzle in... Not so good. Checked Trash and Treasure, then back out to Crossroads for concreting and shifting rock. Sadly it was not to be as it was pissing down out there. We had raincoats and awnings, but concrete doesn't like rain. Neither do sundials. So plans were made for next Site prep/set up (the weekend before Festival) - frantic concreting will occur. Home and started on Tent.
Finally got the canvas back from the Laundry on Fri. 3 pieces we were supposed to dry ourselves, but due to changes in opening hours, we couldn't get in and they were nice enough to rewash and dry them once they started getting dodgy.
So, with rain hammering on the roof and occasional thunder in the background on Sun afternoon, canvas was measured and ironed (well, bits thereof), plans were made and revised and eventually we managed to start on one of the seams for the roof piece. The joys of attaching 7m + pieces of 150cm wide fabric were discovered. Lucky we have a nice long hallway going straight onto the kitchen with a good bench for a) ironing and b) setting the sewing machine on. Long tubes of fabric were arranged. Nice sewing machine coping with 4 layers of heavy canvas in very large chunks. Definitely takes coordination of two people to handle... 1 roof seam down though. Will have to add fabric to the next piece before attaching to get around having to add an extra sodcloth.
Need to figure out where to set up sewing machine. Lack of space in sewing room due to 3 persons worth of fabric, wool, looms, and flatmate's sewing machine. Kitchen worked really well but is kinda useful for its original purpose.
Oh well more tentage tonight. Allowed 3 weeks to get fabric sewn together, before needs to have poles fitted and made etc. Festival is only5 weeks 4 1/2 weeks away...
So, can we make the tent without killing each other? I boss Z around with sewing (though he pinned better than me) but I'll be of far less use when it comes to frame construction.
Dinner and after finishing the seam (see under cut), blobbed with TV and trouser hand sewing.
Round 1 busy weekend down. Next weekend, road trip to Sydney and LOTR exhibit. Then following weekends are occupied with more running around, housewarming, next site prep... As said, Festival is only5 weeks 4 1/2 weeks away...
Mad? Hell yes. Fun, isn't it...
