Back to the usual...
Jan. 3rd, 2005 09:09 pmAfter a 2 1/2 week whirlwind in NZ, back to Canberra safely. Back to tempertures in the 30s again...
The gory details...
Weds 15 Dec
Bus to Sydney, the Ouzo incident (ask Z for details), Gallery Serpentine (skirts for me and gold and red velvet corset for Nicola), airport, boring flight, taxi to Bordello before talking and bed.
Thurs 16 Dec
rain
Meet with Karen and Peter (NZ ex-supervisors) and talked shop (stars stars stars), grocery shopping, escorted Nicola flat "shopping", Morris and medieval dancing in the Botanical Gardens (rain had stopped and I only mucked up Wherligig where they changed the hay on me).
Fri 17 Dec
Kiwi Disposals, Cash Converters (yay to decent me sized oilskin), Toffs. Then back to Bordello for junk and people consolidation (me, Zane, Nicola, Slosh and Theuns) before off to Staveley. Dropped off at Woolshed creek carpark by Vernon. Tramped in to the Woolshed Creek Hut via 4wd track- out of shape despite biking attempts but not as bad as though). Nasty weather drove off other trampers so had hut to selves:). Nice falafel and massages.
Sat 18 Dec
Woke to 3 inches of snow on ground. Had sleet, snow and hail at various times though day.
Built snowman and walked to Waterfall, shifted mud (rather than rock) leading to a less smokey chimney. Dinner then sauna - nice and warm with naked people too:)
Sun 19 Dec
Breakfast and packing, walked up nearby hill looking for agates (shiny rocks:), started snowing on way down, 2nd lunch, then walked out over 4wd drive track. Occassional sleet on way (hail on bare legs not recommended but did go interesting colours due to external cold - rest of me was fine though). Through wonders of modern technology, Vernon picked us up. Nicola et al disappeared after afternoon tea (rescuing Theuns from further interrogation), while Z and I stayed for dinner with Zane's Dad and Vernon before leisurely drive back to Chch and Bordello.
Mon 20 Dec
Wombled to Uni via Church Corner and Kutwells (black linen, lace, foam backed (boo) brown twill weave wool :). Met with Karen and Peter and discussed paper which now may actually vaguely close to acceptance if we change a bunch of thing and the reviewer can be convinced that we did in fact mention a bunch of the things he wanted in the paper in the first place. sigh... But Tandoori Palace and garlic naan once Z tore himself away from the latest Pratchett at UBS (yes, some things don't change..:)
Tues 21 Dec
Drove to Staveley and was interviewed by Arms officer to see if I thought Zane was a fit person to have a gun license - Yes, he knows street signs are for road directions and not random target practice... Overnight at Staveley.
Weds 22 Dec
Caught up with Z family friends in Ashburton and wafted past its secondhand book store before getting back to Chch and catching up with Vicki and Peter.
Pause for breath, and the next week will follow in the next entry, before it all fades into more of a blur...
