I think I need a mop...
Mar. 14th, 2006 12:26 amOk, so found out how to access the ANU library from home as though on the Uni system ie electronic subscription access.
And using a link recommended off the annual report (2004) of "Medieval Archaology" (only 2 issues electronicly available unfortunately... but 2 viking articles in there:)
Portable Antiquities Scheme's Finds Database
A searchable database of all the finds reported to the UK Portable Antiquities Scheme. Ranges from Palaeolithic to around 18th C. 110057 listed finds (as of today). They are aiming for 70% with images.
It is after midnight on a weeknight and I should stop drooling. Check finds, and start looking at different objects... 552 thimbles... Swords, taps, keys, bits, ... All amateur finds so not the shiniest but definitely interesting.

Re: library
Date: 2006-03-14 03:37 am (UTC)Go to http://virtual.anu.edu.au/login
and login using UniID and password, using the shortcut to the Uni lobrary page which is given.
Then it should be a case of check the journal article as per usual.
Haven't tried with any of the astronomy articles, cause I don't go through the library for those (ADS service instead), but I think that still works if you visit the journal website after establishing the reverse proxy (logging in that way), since that is how it checks for subscriptions (I think).
Official info at (Library faq on the subject)
NB Haven't tried that page since I got told about the virtual site in a talk by one of the Computer Section. Should still work.
