I know the reality will not live up to the smell, but that doesn't stop me wanting pie...
And then my brain turns to medieval meat pies - which tend to be far nicer than the modern sludge... and if you make them, guaranteed to have meat you can identify.
Ok this has just devolved to links to medieval recipe collections, but that can't exactly hurt...

I think the recipe started as one for marinated chicken nibbles in the Form 2 home ecconomics cookbook for Casebrook...and evolved...
