Still composing posts on the way to and from the railway station, then getting home and never really getting around to them. I am sure there were some absolute doozies, but for now only fragments remain. And some good fragments of rainbow recently that I think I was going to mention too...

LJ- crosspostability of locked posts to Facebook etc.
Impolite of them really. Simple policy for any of you on my friends list: you locked it, it stays locked, and franky, facebook stays with facebook and LJ stays with LJ (though I have posted links from my own flickr account to both, but that is me and my accounts, not anyone elses). I wont cross post.

Earthquake (and the aftershocks) in Canterbury.
There is this small irrational bit of my brain that thinks that sort of thing can't happen to somewhere I have lived/visited. Just wrong. Not allowed. But that bit of brain has already been proven wrong with fires and Canberra. And then there is the bit of the brain fascinated by the science - signals, magnitudes, mechanics and location, the footage of the fault scarp, time series maps etc. And the bit of brain which is now a little more paranoid since it has been locally demonstrated that this sort of thing can happen and is eying up building fascades and the train route along the harbour. And the bit of brain that hopes that everyone is ok and the aftershocks will calm down enough for people to get some good sleep and normality to resume. There are probably a few other bits as well but they have been distracted into doing the dishes and other sensible everyday things.

Just finished Peter S Beagle's A fine and private place and picked up The folk of the air. Good reads, but his writing tends to lead to odd thought processes and turns of phrase.

Time for hot water bottle and sleep I think.
