As per usual in the leadup to CF, Z is suffering a (viking) trouser crisis. Time for repairs/conversions and maybe new trousers.

1 pair (wool) fold down and redo waist hem as way too high.
1 pair (blue linen) Convert to braes. He may need some hose to go with them though.

Sanity issue: Z's tunic length is generally mid thigh or slightly higher. Do people consider this a safe length to go with braes and hose, or are longer tunics needed before this is braved?

In the meantime, I will continue the computer backup*, pick something to watch while sewing, and hem the trousers where I know what I am doing.

And try not to get distracted by the coif and headcloth posts going on at Thistle Treads which would turn up after I had hemmed and assembled my coif... Headcloth maybe after CF...

* Yay for using Syncback and having it only need to back up changes/new additions since last time.

My personal opinion - I'm happy with guys (or people dressed well as guys) wandering around in braes and shirt out of court at a camping event, so I don't care if someone flashes a little braes when fully dressed.

It is rising hemlines that led to the development of hose joined at the back and the codpiece to cover the gap at the front. Basically, if your nether regions are covered by your tunic when you're seated, you're fine. If not, yor hose have failed to keep up with your tunic.

In general. But there are exceptions eg a 12th C german fashion for shirts showing under a shorter tunic. And a lot of flashes of braies shots in 12th C artwork.

But unless i had evidence otherwise, I'd be wondering if mid thigh wasn't a little short for good reenactment anyway, and perhaps a decorative hem could be added.
