Thurs: Nice weather. Made it out to site around dinner time. Just as well we weren't rushing. Z got what we needed done on the Viking tent (a-)frame (fabric brought back to NZ checked baggage), I got blood pressure checked (routine), I wielded a weed whacker on bits of sloped lawn while Z woodworked), and we eventually got packed and headed out to site. Dinner (evil KFC but was hungry), setting up geteld and then talking round fire til ~midnight. Nice leather and rawhide lantern.

Fri: Nice weather. Tent assembly - frame for the a-frame was finished by Z and the yellow stripy geteld (brought back to NZ via carry on baggage...) had poles sorted and a door fudged to shut for [livejournal.com profile] alpha_angel to use. Spliced ropes (6.5 eye splices). Spit roasting pork. Nice dinner. Viking a-frame went up. Big viking a-frame. Much sitting around fire talking til late (midnightish)

Sat: Not bad weather again, though windy and drizzly from late evening onwards. Sewing and variable degrees of success with wax tablets. Bacon smoking. Z played with hand gun. Early dinner. Giggling at Knatliker. Shifting of viking tent (unpeg at ends and lift...), awningifying and lo, the Inn of the Hanging Bacon appeared. Smoke, singing and silly games sheltered from the wind and rain. Bed about midnight again.

Sun: Still drizzling when got up. Mutter mutter re viking tent waterproofing (ask Z for details). Sluggish. Blobbing then pack up mode. Z demonstrating hand gun to guides. Must not swear in front of guides even when candle and rush light lighters have gone out for the 3rd time. Luckily rain stopped and sun came out enough to mostly dry tents. 2nd to last leaving site round 1/4 to 3ish when was warm, sunny and humid. Moore Wilsons for a kettle. Home, unpack, put stuff in sun to dry more. Washed hair, went thud, caught up on internet for a while. Roast beef and bacon with R&S. Event mulling and plans for next time.
Time for sleep, especially with work tomorrow.

Notes for next camping event:
Lanterns - leather with opaque rawhide (dog chew) panels - dual purpose, so can use either candle or torch/electric light inside depending on fire status. Useful for CF.
Z to put markers (ribbons/hazard tape) on all the tools he brings out and take it off the ones he uses. That way he can see which ones he doesn't use often/at all and not take them.

Next MLH camp planned for March.
