(cause it is interesting seeing what people will recognize what...)

You all know the drill :) Some are less random than others if I saw them on the selection screen, so there are some favorites there.

Put your music player on random.
- Post the first lines from the first 32 (I'm going to have to go with 21, cause it is late) songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song (actually I tended to skip anything off the hard drive which was there out of Z's collection which I couldn't stand...).
- Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
- Bold the songs (well, actually IDing them seems nicer) when someone guesses correctly.
- Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

First lines for guessing:

1.There is freedom withinDon't Dream its over - Sarah Blasko cover of the Crowded house song. [livejournal.com profile] mayela_delarue
2.It's a happening thing and it's happening to you Rain - Dragon [livejournal.com profile] eftb soft of... (K)

7. I know it is very bad form to quote ones own reviews but I would like to mention something

8. My grandmother called wearing rosary beads and a black braided shawl that she wears [livejournal.com profile] alpha_angel is probably thinking of the right one but unless she names it...
9. You'll remember me when the west wind moves Fields of gold - Sting [livejournal.com profile] doushkasmum
10. From here to there to everywhere and back to union square when do I get some sleep? Get some sleep - Bic Runga [livejournal.com profile] alpha_angel

12. Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by the crash test dummies
17. Throw your arms around me, I'd say Hunters and Collectors

1. Don't Dream It's Over
2. I think it's called "It's Been Raining For So Long" by one of those interchangeable Aussie bands from the eighties that might as well all be Icehouse.
3. The Blacksmith, very likely by Steeleye Span, but actually Trad.
4. Damn, I know that one too, but not enough...
5. Bad Moon Rising (are you sure it's "pale" in that line?).
6. The Philosophers' Song
7. "... Mr Lehrer's muse is unfettered by such limiting factors as taste..." Ah, but which song does that bit come before? I Hold Your Hand In Mine?
8 - 11. a long stretch of Buggered If I Know
12. Headline News. Really must filk that some time.
13. Walk On The Wild Side. Ironic how mainstream that song is.
14. No idea which Crowded House song this is, but it's definitely a Crowded House song. Who else has even heard of Te Awamutu?
15. The Boxer.
16. Lullaby (Good Night My Angel), which I really must memorise to sing for the BatPup
17. Throw Your Arms Around Me
18. Who Wants To Live Forever?
19-21. no idea

You have very easily-guessed musical tastes!

21: the song about Culloden that [livejournal.com profile] alpha_angel sings

Of all those who've done this meme so far, I know the most songs from your set.

I think it's because I have her entire music collection on my hard disk, from the time I helped her and Z recover from a hard drive failure and they said I could snarf their collection and their extensive collection of underage hamster pornography.

You've reminded me, I really need to quiz NZ SCAdians about the songs they sing, so I can add them into The Known Words...

My impression is that NZ SCAdian singing is moving from random people singing to primarily the serious singers singing, which is a bit sad.

Dang, if only someone produced a freely available songbook dedicated to encouraging bardic sing-along stuff within the Kingdom...

Oh, here's one.

(Not for general distribution yet; still proofing. But it's on its way.)

Oh, there are many songbooks, but at Canterbury Fair at least, I noticed this year that singing attracted the serious singers, who joined in and then moved to singing complex songs. I miss the old days of a bunch of people in the Mong singing a wide mix of mostly simple stuff.

That's got a lot to do with who's running the circle. Maybe I need to dredge out my old tutorials on the topic and give them a dusting-off...

Having someone run it is rather a foreign concept.

5 Bad moon rising - someone...
6 Philosophers' drinking song - Monty Python
8 I could sing it, but I don't know the actual name of the song or artist
9 Fields of gold - Sting
10 Get some sleep - Bic Runga
18 Who wants to live forever - Queen
21 Culloden's harvest - Deante

2. So what is it about the Aussies claiming NZ bands - though admittedly Dragon didn't make it big til they went to Australia. But you did at least recognize the song.
7. Yes, to a Tom Lehrer intro, but not to that song.
12. See [livejournal.com profile] mayela_delarue's answer.
14. Not Crowded House. Close though.

A. An Australian.

Q. What do you call an unsuccessful New Zealander?
A. Who?

And you're right - Headline News was the name of Weird Al's filk of the song. D'oh!

So... how about them Mets, eh?

Oddly much of this has been copied off my CD collection more recently - until recently, Z's taste dominated on the computer and mine dominated in the CDs and (ahem) tapes...
