Spent the past 2 days on a computing course for work*. So far so good - I had been warned it would be heavy going, but I am guessing that the hardest bits are yet to come as they cram 3 days worth of course into 2 in the second part.

What has been somewhat annoying/startling is the fact that from half way down a largish room, I have to squint to get the projector image to focus, and it would fuzz up (blurry edges to letters) the rest of the time. Not immediately headache inducing, but stressful on the eyes by the end of the day. I didn't have to do that previously. In Canberra, things on screens in lecture theatres were fine - never noticed anything in 3 years of attending nearly weekly talks. Adelaide is more difficult to tell - the only lecture I remember was a meteor impact one just before we left and things were a little fuzzy then. Z has always had better farsight than me, but now it is noticeably so.

So, I have a booking for an optometrist across from work tomorrow (fingers crossed the course finishes at the same time it has previously)**. Will see if glasses are needed/helpful and follow on from there. Unfortunately any glasses probably wont be ready in time for the rest of the course. Luckily we have printout copies of the powerpoint pages so can read off there easily, and I might be able to move to a closer computer desk for the last 2 days.

So, should it be necessary (fairly likely), what style frames do people reckon would suit? Worth going for something thin wire rim and victorian?

*SAS for those familiar with such things.
**So, is it better to go for the $90 check tomorrow (which I booked), or the $60 check (OPSM) but not til at least Thurs? Actual lens and frame prices seem cheaper at the one I booked, so don't know if things will balance out.

Tell the instructor. You'll get moved up front. Not to make allowance for visual impairment is textbook OH&S violation, and they'll be completely aware of that. There won't be any problem shifting you. (If there is, the nice juicy payout will set you up for ages...)

I find glasses style seems to come down to what feels comfortable and looks good on your face. You never really know until you try 'em on, so try on lots. Some optometrists will actually let you take a selection home overnight so you can spend all evening trying them on to your heart's content and bugging everyone around you for their opinion... :-)

I got a leather box to take home with 4 different frames... And everyone at Darton Council got a chance to comment/giggle :)
