Wow. I have always had the amazing ability to make posts on a subject to a public email list and have it sink without a trace only to have someone else give the same link and gets all sorts of discussion a day or two or three after. And to actually say something in a group of people and have them be startled that I was actually there and had been for some time.

Now it turns up even more in person. At morning tea, stated the answer to one of the Dom Post 5 min quiz questions (loud enough to be heard and acknowledged (I think)), and got it right. Overheard someone this afternoon talking about the same morning tea quiz session only apparently they were the only person to get it right. Didn't call him on it though, since he is generally a nice guy who wouldn't normally do such a thing.

(chase down male privalige link re younger females in meetings and lack of
acknowledgement - nope, couldn't find in recent Science Blogs) but I have had it happen to me online where age shouldn't matter (though possibly reputation on the list does, and I didn't post there much) and where most of the posters are female.

Maybe I am just special. But why does it happen when I am trying to decloak...

Mood: Grumpy and somewhat obscurely pissed off
Location: At work so wont post til get home.

But now having come home, had enchilladas for dinner (mmmm enchilladas and slightly burnt tongue and roof of mouth), had singing practice (didn't combine well with the afore mentioned burns) and have generally perked up.

Interesting discussion at Tor.com on What books haven’t you read?.

What books haven’t you read? What “classic” could you just not get into? What was it that made it unreadable? Will you ever try to finish it?

1. The System of the World by Neal Stephenson. Like his stuff and have read all the others. But I just stalled and forgot where things were up to and keep being distracted by other books when I retry.
2. Dr Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. Didn't read badly, but just didn't seem worth continuing with. Might try again sometime.
3. A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin. Stalled somewhere in the 3rd?? book.

I remember the first time I tried Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay, I stalled on the first chapter and didn't continue, despite having liked the Fionavar Tapestry. Left him alone for years. Went back a number of years later and devoured it and have been avidly reading his other novels since.

Mind you, I have quite happily reread the Gormenghast Trilogy several times (though I will admit to not having bothered with Titus Alone for a few years now).

I should stop waiting for Z to finish his homework and head off to bed.
