Found via the LJ brass_goggles feed:
The Astragal Press: Publisher of books on antique tools, early trades and early technology Slightly more vctorian that actually early, but still interesting.

Second oilskin cloak is basically done - both need lining tacked down in a couple spots and ties/fastenings sorted.

So, after usual internet binge, will get onto playing with hoods...

After about a day of handling oilskin, I have very waterproof, sightly slippery fingers. This can be a little painful while handsewing...

Hood 3/4 done though and wearable.

Don't you hate it when you start something one way, get part way through and realise you should have done things a different way but you are too far along and too stubborn to switch.

One hood is just about done to a wearable standard. Don't think my fingers will stand doing another with the hand finished edges, so either Z's one done tonight will have visable machine stitching, or he is finishing it himself, or he wont have one - in which case we will get downpours and everyone else (except me) will be soggy.*

The evening scent of soggy wool Viking...

But he does have a broad brim hat... and the cloak is done...

I will note that we have both done events with wool cloaks and hoods in the rain and been fine**. It is just that dry cloaks on the bed are much nicer to sleep under.

*Cause Murphy's law says so.
**NAAMA 2002 anyone?

But I think I will be happy with any NZ weather given the weather we are skipping out on - 34 degrees Thurs, building to 38 degrees Mon and Tues.

Edit: 2nd hood now has the machined bits done and just needs threads sewn in for it to be useable. Time to pack and faint at the weights involved...
