And so the burn-off of the chopped down partially burnt pine trees surrounding Mt Stromlo continues... 20m long and several m high piles of wood getting burnt up and down the mountain. They have been doing this for a while, while the weather is not too hot, not too dry and not too windy*. Only now however, have they moved onto the ones this close and this early in the day.

Yay to watching 5-10m high flames from the safety of my office:) Clouds formed by the heat should be interesting...

I should probably remember to close my window at some point soon.

*Having gotten to go home early yesterday due to power cuts (10:45am - 9:30pm) on the mountain from lines down in strong winds...

Edit: Unfortunately using handheld flamethrowers, rather than the helicopter dropping flaming stuff - you can't have everything...

Almost exactly half way through the seminar, the wind switched from NW to southerly - sending smoke directly into the buildings... At least I had shut my window but the door on the other side of the building was open and the corridors are awfully smoky...

Wonder if people will be heading home early again today...
