Why is it just when you wish to be in a sea of projects which need to be done in the next few weeks and need to sort, pile and generally freely make a mess and work on things, there is a rental inspection scheduled next Tues.

Why is the only rain for ages forecast for the day with the job interview?
Still deciding what to bring and wear.

Why a "miami" mix for Madonna's version of Don't cry for me Argentina? Ouch.

However it is warm and clear out, there is roast duck in the fridge for dinner and the beach beckons... when Z gets in after missing the bus and being trapped by a bookshop...

I've had this problem in the past; I just rang the agent and told them the date they wanted was not possible and gave them a list to choose from of dates that were acceptable to me. I find that if you do this in a friendly but authoritative voice, they do not argue and occasionally even make an excuse not to come. Mostly out of surprise, I've always thought.

Madonna and Lloyd Webber. Can there be a Satan if we don't have any gods?

Unfortunately this rental company appears to be attempting to pre-empt that from their letter:

Please note that due to the high number of properties to be inspected, this time CANNOT be altered or postponed to a later date. We would appreciate if you did not make this request, as we will be unable to accomodate ANY changes.

Besides, it probably does fall at the least evil of an evil set of times. I suspect they have forgotten to inspect up until this point - I would generally expect the first inspection in the first 3 months and we have been in possesion slightly longer. Earlier would have been more inconvenient wrt Christmas etc and any later and they are looking while we are at CF.

Also, it gives a chance to pester about the oven (noted when we got the place as "to be repaired"). The novelty of using a chair to wedge the door shut and pliers to change the settings is wearing off.

Well, if you're getting a fixed oven out of it, all good!

However:

Please note that due to the high number of properties to be inspected, this time CANNOT be altered or postponed to a later date. We would appreciate if you did not make this request, as we will be unable to accomodate ANY changes.

Is a bit outrageous! Is that legal in SA? It would not be legal in NSW where agents need the permission of tenants to pop on in. I would be surprised if it was legal in your state, too, but since it's not going to cause a fuss to you, no reason to chase it down at the moment. Keep up sleeve for when useful, maybe ...
