Nice wander

Right, now established that Occasionally Useful Bank branch is ~35 min walk away on a generally shaded route. Only one or two dangerous stores along the route.
The X-rated shop should be done for false advertising - they said they had books, but that was only about 5 paperbacks of nothing interesting, and the rest was all the standard DVDs, videos and paraphenalia. Mutter mutter, finding decently written erotica/porn...
Military Hobbies made up for it though. Lots of figures to look at (including action Vikings and Germanic Warriors - far better clothing standards that the Viking Princess Barbie), and a good selection of new and second hand military history and random SF/Fantasy. Resisted a nice looking but big (coffee table sized) book on the history of Tournaments ($30 if anyone else is interested - I would have probably grabbed it for $10-15, but not completely up my alley. Had a section of photos of extant tourney armour and a decent sized notes/reference section at the back from a cursatory glance.). Did give in to a cheap Cecelia Holland novel on the death of Attila - listed as $1.50, but it got chucked in for free with the other one I got ($20) which was a very nice book on Castles by David Day, more importantly, illustrated by Alan Lee. I have a weekness for Alan Lee illustrations and was delighted when he was called in for the LOTR movies, given that I consider his illustrations to be the best Tolkien ones. Also he generally picks good authors/works for his illustrated works - Tolkien, Rosemary Sutcliffe, Peter Dickenson, The Mabinogion. Had known he had done the Castles one, but hadn't seen it around, let alone second hand. Score:)
They also had a good (new) collection of the Osprey Military books. Nothing that really leapt out and grabbed my attention (though the 2 on Far Eastern seige weaponry were very cool), but they are getting in a new shipment this weekend, which apparently includes the Western Seige weaponry one. Tempting but shall see what the price is like first...
The 30 degrees out so far today was fairly reasonable for an hour long strolling with a drink, breaks and window shopping pauses, especially with a route involving lots of trees. Not planning such a walk tomorrow though. 38 degrees not yet in my survival realm...
