Vanilla beans here are horrifically expensive if you're buying them in small quantities for cooking. I've never tried to source them in bulk so no idea there, sorry.
If it were me, I'd make a small amount (say 8 beans, 1 cup of vodka) just to say I'd done it, but that's just me. :)
