And the moral of the story children, is remember to back up more often than 6 monthly. Hard drive on main computer fail. Luckily the 3 external hard drives were all fine (ironically media collection fine there), but the last backup was April (before resurrection of old hard drive with the laptop contents from shortly before the laptop died - can we say failure to learn there).
Retrieved most of the photos, but there are gaps.

There was even a little post-it note attached to the computer in the last week or so, asking when last backup, as a reminder.

At least we don't tend to do much work on the home machine - au tax returns were lodged and copies printed out, so nothing lost there. Just some spreadsheets with budgeting stuff and whatever had been downloaded and/or bookmarked from the net. And anything else worked on since April - eg presentation for wax tablets from Collegium. The habit of posting interesting links to LJ comes in handy now.

Sigh.

Drinkies went well (until the computer died), but flat hunting is failing to go anywhere - of the one rental listing that looked ok, rental agent failed to get back to us.

Some success at something this weekend would be nice.
