So a brief recap of the past few days:

Weds: Turned 31. Quite similar to 30 so far. Quiet day what with work and all.

Thurs: Slightly busier. Usual day at work, followed by meeting up with S&T under the umbrella, Noodle house for dinner then off to Te Papa for Collosal squid talk. A very interesting talk from a rather sleep deprived squid expert. Joined by K, then off for dessert... which ended up being at Strawberry Fare. Must remember that one between 2 there is plenty... Jaffa tower wasn't bad, but I think K's lemon cheesecake was the nicest. Took home doggy bags. Then headed to Heavenly Burlesque. Much fun with some very spectacular aerial acts. Finally made it home just before midnight.

Fri: Usual day at work. I made it home before the southerly (as posted), Z got home after it hit but before it got absolutely stinking (a few minutes later). Gaming in the evenng for which I spent the time parked in front of the fire, stating into it - who, me, cat like tendencies?

Set: Didn't go to Hard Camp. Slept in then ventured forth to Upper Hutt. This was delayed slightly by Z ranting quite sensibly, but still made it to the Red Cross shop in time to get the set of ~14th C plates with the pressed design around the edges. Then hit the Upper Hutt equivalent of Trash Palace and got a book case and some muffin tins. Resisted a TV (though they have some large cheap ones). Savemart and 8 nice wool tops for ~$60 (including merino undershirt type ones). Lunch, then hit the Upper Hutt Rotary club book fair (just as well we got the book case). Some good scores including one on the Oseberg finds, one on the Jarlshof excavations in the Shetlands, and the Shire Archeology one on Medieval Pottery.

Staggered home (via Trash Palace but nothing interesting there), are doing laundry and blobbing a bit before heading out to socialise...

Will rant as Z did on Sue Kedgley and risk later. Or at least only briefly note now...

Lets look at death and injury rates on NZ roads and then look at adverse reactions to vaccines and see which odds you like better - over a death a day and a much higher injury rate vs none so far and the vaccine halving the cervical cancer death rate. If we had a road crash death and injury rate equal to that happening due to adverse vaccine reactions, we would be fucking ecstatic. Based on the Aussie stats, no deaths, and adverse reactions rates of the order of what you get from injecting someone with a placebo anyway.
Still debating as to whether Sue Kedgley (who seem to have an interesting grasp of scientific literacy at the best of times) is enough for the Greens to lose my vote. From the reply Z got, apparently the Greens support the vaccine intro (she just doesn't say so in the press release) but she wants parents to access the risks carefully (she says in the reply there were several thousand adverse reactions in the USA, but doesn't mention vaccination rates or the magnitude of the reaction or non-reaction rates) and not be pressured into doing it. She isn't helping...
