Mar. 11th, 2008 10:18 pmYipes, I have been slack (or very busy) for a week.
Mon: Usual work day ?? in evening.
Tues: Usual work day. College A&S in evening. Brought clothing for people to have a look at.
Weds: Usual work day. In the evening, skipped the seminar on deep sea marine archeology and Shire Council meeting.
Thurs: Usual work day with a bit of running around for costume hire pick up. R&A's stag/hen night in the evening. Very nice food and company at Flying Burrito Brothers. Then a bit of wandering round town before settling in for hot choc and desserts at Expressoholic (??). I got a ride home with
alpha_angel while Z stayed in town longer and hung out with the boys til midnight. Ask him for the bored stripper reviews.
Fri: Usual work day but feeling a bit gluggly and almost feverish in the afternoon. Expedition to track down painkillers. Advice to pharmacy staff: please be honest. The shop where you said that no generic forms of panadeine existed (cough*bollocks*cough) will not be getting my patronage ever again, whereas the one where the guy apologised, said they had some for prescriptions but they were sold at the same price as the named brand stuff and asked what I needed it for, did get the purchase. I'll try and remember the railway station generic brand ibuprofen next time though. Evening was wedding reception setup - sorry not much help due to gluggyness, and dragging
realityadmin to socialise with gamers at S&T's before heading home for last minute costume fixing/construction.
Sat: A &
dragonermine wedding. Chocolate and walnut pancakes at S&T's before heading into town. Gloriously sunny with a bit of a breeze to cool things down. Everyone looked very spiffing in various types of Victorian gear (will try and link to photos if anyone posts them - Z got a few (6) but only of the wedding itself, and I would like to see more :)). The vote is that we really need more excuses for doing victorian clothing - formal dinner with victorian mad scientist lecture and games evening at Turnbull house anyone? And anything involving steam trains... Ceremony went well. There were lots of photos and a photographer up a tree. Then after, a group of us wandered up the hill to the Cable car vicinity and munched on hot pies on the lawn beside Carter Observatory. A subset of us then had much fun wandering down the hill to the rose gardens. Decide that need to do a full victorian safari expedition from one end of the botanical gardens to the other, with porters and stopping and setting up camp for tea and cucumber sandwiches at various stages. More wandering at the glasshouss and rose garden (T looked perfect with her late victorian gown and parasol amongst the roses), before heading off to the reception. Much food, much (though not too much) speeches, some dancing. A suprisingly early night with many disappearing off early.
realityadmin kept the sleeping mats in the front room, but we also got I. crashing on the sofa cushions (just as well Z got the sofa on Thurs). Much talking til about 2am, though I fell asleep on the floor round 1am.
Sun: Met with K, then headed to S&T's to pick up the car (where it had been left Sat morning), then onto brunch at A&R's. Much food and talking. Z dropped I. off at the airport, returned, talked, munched cornflakes then we dropped
realityadmin at the airport, before heading back to help clean up the reception venue. Much fabric rolling and thumbtack removal, but generally not onerous work. Slight alarm incident. Dropped A and B off at A&R's place, then returned Upper Hutt library books (yes, there was a lot of driving that weekend), got milk and dinner supplies, then headed home and collapsed, with a slight nap thrown in. Then Z was very nice and finished the top of one of the sets of drawers, so we could actually put some clothing away.
Mon: Usual work day. College A&S in evening. Brought picture books for people to look for clothing they would like. Useful when someone likes the Eleanor of Toledo portrait and you can show them the entry in Patterns of Fashion for one of her other gowns in a similar cut.
Tues: Usual work day. Amazing how you can solve what seemed like bastard unsolvable problems at ~4:30pm yesterday, in about 5 min the following morning. Sweeney Todd in the evening (with a detour to the Bookmark and filling a gap in the Tanya Huff collection). Z described its London as Gothic Mary Poppins. Very good cinematography, acting, singing etc, but due to the story matter, I think I will class it in the Sin City category - good the first time, but don't rewatch.
Now time for sleep I think. This weekend will (fingers crossed) be slightly calmer, but will hopefully include getting a proper bed.
