Fri evening: The plan had been not to do anything/blob/get started in sewing stuff. This is obviously why we ended up at a setting-the-scenes/character building-for-the-start roleplaying session at S&Ts. I'm planning to lurk and watch, but Z had fun. Did get some corset mock up cut measured out and cut out with assistance form various cats along the way.

Sat: Eventually made it to K's with sewing machine and oilskin. Dug out various stuff from storage (oddly not the cotton drill which had been the point), but plenty of other stuff including the simplicity civil war era corset pattern and instructions. Measured oilskin, detoured to Spotlight and got black cotton drill, eyelets and ( Simplicity 4052 (the Regency Era Underwear set)). Yay for K's VIP card and half price patterns. Unfortunately or fortunately they didn't have the 2 other ones I wanted (18th undies and the Regency Outerwear). Lunch at food court then back to K's, then looked at a couple rental house. Open home for the nicer one was at 4pm, so pestered K and picked some of her blackberries to fill in time. Wandered over for the open home (not far), then started heading home. Got rung back about the 3rd one we were vaguely interested in as we were at the Pauatahanui (?) Mobil and having been given an address, went back and checked it, before finally making it back to Mum and Dad's round 5:30pm. Checked email and had dinner and realised the sugar contest in the evening was actually from 5pm. Left a bit after 6:30pm, so only 2 hours late. Most of the dessert gone (not certain who won, but apparently the category for next time is "hot and spicy"), but there was good other food and some leftovers and good company and a chance to catch up with various MLH people we hadn't seen since Nov Camp. Left just in time not to be able to see the Te Papa 10th Ann fireworks over the hill, but could at least hear them.

Sun: Library (yay to finding a copy of Lukyanenko's The Night Watch)and about to start work on comparative corsetry patterns. There will be reports/commentary/maybe swearing later.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] mmy_me, if you are reading and wondering where Z got to, he left here at about 2:10pm, so should be along "shortly".

Ok, so should I be disturbed that my torso is far better approximated by the mathematical model of a cotton reel (based on body measurements and taking circumferences and dividing by 10) than the Simplicity size 8? I'd expect a few fitting issues - this is why I made a mockup or two, but the ~2cm overlap at the top and the ~15cm gap at the base was fairly impressive. Don't know how this will affect boning placement issues and overall profile issues.

Should possibly keep this in mind when playing with the other Simplicity patterns I have.
