semi mutter mutter
Jul. 6th, 2007 03:51 pmI have a mild headache that wont go away and the mental attitude of a petulant 5 year old. Z is trying to bribe me with hot chocolate in self defense.
I have the outside layer of a viking caftan cut out of nice maroon/purple wool. It's to be lined with a very nice brown wool cashmere blend (think polar fleece for texture, only far nicer - yay $4 per m Bedford Row sales)*. But. There is always a but. Not enough fabric for sleeves. Could piece them but that would leave bulky seams right in the arms where you don't want the restriction of movement. Could use a different fabric to line the sleeves - we have more wool cashmere in a different colour (but slightly stiffer). Could just not line the sleeves and see how it goes. Will work out later.
And besides, on the local disaster front that is fairly minor - Z has family in Oakura (Taranaki) where they had a tornado through yesterday. We have confirmed they and their home are ok, but apparently either side and up and down the road are a complete disaster zone with roofs torn off and serious damage. Extremely lucky.
Those who are going and/or panicking, have fun at Coronation and take good photos and tell good stories for those of us who can't make it.
*No, documenting that is not really possible, but then given the amount of conjecture in Viking jacket reconstruction... Besides, the lining shouldn't be visible often and warm clothing is a very good thing.
