You know that grumpy restless too easily irritated feeling... *

Got out the doublet stuff. Played with the shoulder tab pieces, took off a pattern for the applied strips and pinned it to some spare velvet. Decided that this was just procrastinating taking a pattern off the body pieces and got them out. Torso length good, torso width and arms bad. Thought about things for a bit and dug out the body block and pattern pieces used for the graduation Tudor. Laid them out over the doublet pieces and thought some more. Quite different shapes, though it does look as though the equivalent sized pieces can be cut from the cut doublet pieces. But a bunch of things don't scale linearly especially round the armholes and sleeves. I'd work from the Tudor sleeves and arm hole, but I did a very crap job of that then (late 2003) anyway and crap job replicated does not equal success the second time unless you know how to fix what you fucked up last time...
So, am I talking myself out of this project at the moment?
I could put it away, dig out that cashmere/wool blend and make a Viking jacket for myself trimmed with the scary wool. Not something I have done before but rectangles and triangles in familiar patterns. Maybe silk line it for extra warmth. All materials at hand, but a new project... And I wasn't going to start something new.
I suppose the question is challenge. I want a challenge, but having failed at doublet attempts previously, part of me thinks it is too great a challenge - the bit of me that remembers how frustrated I get at fitting things and refitting things and throws things across the room at that stage or at least needs a good calming down talk to and hug. Maybe I am just scared of sleeves.
*whine* But I want a challenge...*whine*

So the more sensible action is to put the doublet aside - for a couple days til I am less of a grumpy easily irritated bastard, work on (say) the blackworked chessboard (started 2001) for that time instead, and go back to the doublet when I am more rational. And see what I think.

But there has been some progress today: strained and decanted the orange cordial made last night, brushed and top-sealed the now black leather skirt. Victorian chemise was hemmed last night as well, so that is done.

Meanwhile Z is building piston version 2 for box bellows 1, and contemplating piston version 3... but only for box bellows 2... whenever that will be...

*Which is probably to a certain extent hormonal and due to lunar phasing but still...

Grocery shopping time now... and probably chocolate.
