Jul. 8th, 2005 04:16 pmLight (from a star or whatever) passing through an instrument has its profile shaped/broadened/rounded by the instrument. So, I have models of what the star should look like before its light goes through the instrument. These need to shaped as though they have traveled through the instrument so they can be directly compared to the observations. This is done by convolving the model spectrum with the instrument profile.
Convolution of 2 functions should be something that is that is possibly in IDL. After all, there is a command for it and all. But can I get the little fucker to produce anything other than the wrong sized array composed of zeros and the wrong numbers...
Hmph. Oh well, few more minutes and I can snuggle into the van with a good murder mystery set in pre-US Civil War Deep South.
Oh and this has filled the time nicely. Ain't that suprising...
