Apr. 12th, 2005 12:05 pmWell, the stars are definitely muddled at the moment. And no, I don't mean that in the fucked up astrological sense.
As can be imagined, playing with astronomical data for a while now, you would think I could come up with a simple and logical system for the filing of the data and analysis on the local computer system. HA! I have a labyrinthine rabbits warren of directories, subdirectories and files. Occasionally I am good and write down in the log book (not this one) where I stored something and what I called it. Most of the time it works, allowing for 10 mins checking back in the log book(s) as to when I last worked on something, which can be months or years ago.
I had tables of line lists I was trying to reconcile back end of Feb. I had outputted them into files another set of programs could read and everything was dandy, til today when I find I need to go back and check and edit things. Flicked back, found directory and file name. Opened file. Empty. Fuck. Checked again, yep, fucked. Sigh, on 8 March, I appear to have forgotten to save correctly, or hamsters ate (unfortunately I can guess which is more likely, though I have had such spreadsheet files disappear on me before) the file. Think it was about 3 days work to set up that lot. And it will probably be about 3 days to redo. Oh joy and rapture.
The sparkly lights in the sky and rainbows are fun, but the calibration and data to go with it really suck occassionally.
And in other news, weekend was good and progress is being made on Bayeux tapestry gown:). It has a start on the attachment of an embroidered keyhole neckline, one sleeve is in one piece and seams finished, while the other needs seams finished.
Stellar group meeting in 5 min, so lunch, chatting and then continuum fitting (if I can find the right files). Only 5 min sewing in the mean time...
