And that was the weekend...

stellar_muddleI think my weekend has vanished in a blur of party and tent construction... and getting very frustrated at a sewing machine (bloody tensioning).
But, Canberra Kaos 1st party has occurred. Not bad turnout from the youngsters but less medievalists that we would have expected/have liked (even allowing for flatmate staying away at her boyfriend's place due to bad lurgie - NOT to be caught by Festival - fingers crossed). The youngsters are so young and occasionally very silly. Highlights (ok, well not really): a wallet stuck in the toilet and persuasion of a certain individual that no, he wasn't going to get his car keys back until the morning given the current state of intoxication and we would far rather have the lounge littered with intoxicated bodies sleeping it off than the road littered with dead multiples thereof. And the angst... It was good to be able to retreat to sensible (ok, interesting) convesation with various mad (older ie over 20) medievalists. Chch Kaos gatherings are large enough that you are/can be more insulated from the extremes.
I really don't like the heavy drinking culture over here, especially the somewhat more cavalier attitude to driving afterwards.
But on a more upbeat note, the machine sewing of the tent is done now. After some tensioning issues, loud exclamations of a less polite nature and me throwing things across the room, the last rope reinforced edge seams are now done. Zane can start on mortise and tenon joints and I can get onto hand sewing - fixing corners, eyeleting and creating door fastenings. I suspect the usual tiny quilting needles wont be up to it, so kickass awls and Zane's whale harpoons may be in order. At least there is no more pinning - the side of my leg the fabric was passing on while sewing has some interesting scratches on. Then the light dawned and I moved to jeans. Bloody 30 degrees out though.
I think I wish to book a weekend for sleeping through - sometime in April please. Zane deserves major rewards for doing the majority of the cleaning before and after the party, but that may or may not be balanced by sewing machine wieldage and pinning... Maybe we should just reward each other..
