Having a go at writing up a sumary/article on the Festival 06 iron smelt - fingers crossed for Cockatrice (deadline 26 Feb to be in the Cockatrice that will be out for this Festival.)

Can people who helped as bellows slaves etc during that Mon, put up their hands so I can get a general idea of who was doing what and/or email names. I may also need email statements from people oking if I use photos with them in. Haven't sorted out which photos yet - but I will try and ping asap if that is needed.

Yes, you could argue this is a bit last minute but it was kinda promised and a couple page essay should be relatively easy in 4 days*, assuming I have the references handy and can get Z to clarify/straighten out/explain things properly**. Pity we didn't photocopy/get the reference for the archeological metallurgy book we got from ANU library - the one with the micrograph images of archeological bloom finds- it would really help if I could remember the title... or the author/editor...

*I have done longer essays in shorter time for Uni, but it was on subjects I knew a little better.
**And rewrite bits cause I think he has a better writing style than me. I tend to come out sounding like the worst journal article I have been reading recently, with kinda long waffly sentenses... Not pretty.

Well, I think the major bellows slaves were [livejournal.com profile] sacred_chao and [livejournal.com profile] tenbears. I was there for a bit on and off in the afternoon and a bit more giving the bellows a shove in the evening when the smelt was coming down. What other specific information are you after?

I did fair amounts of bellowsing and got to hit the axe with the sledgehammer at the end to break the bloom into approximate halves (Yay!). I also helped to maintain the ratio of 4 parts charcoal, 1 part ore, 7 parts cider required to produce iron (ratios may be slightly/completely inaccurate). I think I cut up sheepskin for the bellows and stuff too. Go me.

:)
And you have good photos of the smelt - could we use this and this photo for the article?
Also, if so, who would you like the photos attibuted to in the text - SCA or mundane name? - email me at jmcsaveney_at_yahoo_dot_co_dot_nz, should you not wish to post it here. Brain going blank blank blank wrt names at present - not good.
I'll send in the images copied direct from Flickr, which should be high enough resolution. If not, I'll ping.
