Just installed the Adblocker Plus extension to Firefox. That is nice... I may refine said comment if I find it has been blocking things I want, but for now... bliss...

Back to assembling stuff to bring to interview on Fri. Printer may not like me by the end of this.

Edit: Arsery. Why didn't I do that while I still remembered exactly what I was doing?
While having the hard drive up and running, remembered it would be useful to have access to the old Stromlo mail stuff I had archived via Thunderbird. Found the tarred mail directory, untared it into the right place, such that Thunderbird could see the folder and open it (as per instructions from back when I was archiving things at Stromlo (and had checked at the time to make sure it worked, which it did)). Can see the folders fine, but the email folders appear empty. AAARRRGGGHHHH! Suggestions? I can open in a straight text editor and see that the emails are there (they haven't vanished in a puff of electrons), but it is a different format style, so that may be the issue. But if so, it wasn't an issue 7 months ago. Different upgrades?

On Linux or Windows?

You may have to get Thunderbird to recreate the index files that it keeps. I've never done that with the mail locally, I normally drop it on a server, and peel it off again using IMAP, during which process Thunderbird recreates the indexes.

Otherwise a google for importing mbox format mail into thunderbird might help.

I just went through exactly that! Do it like this:

1. Exit Thunderbird.

2. Copy your files into C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\gibberish\Mail\Local Folders

3. Rename the folders from, say, My Exciting Mail to My Exciting Mail.sbd (the .sbd stands for Shitful Bloody Documentation, as far as I can tell).

4. Open Thunderbird.

This knowledge took me four fucking hours to sort out last night. I hope it helps. If all else fails, and you have Skype, call me: I'm erictfbat, naturally.

PS Don't forget AdBlock Filterset G Updater as well!

Unfortunately the .sbd failed, but after poking, discovered that if I remove the:

Subject: DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE -- FOLDER INTERNAL DATA
Message-ID: <{string of numbers}@{oldwork address}>

This text is part of the internal format of your mail folder, and is not
a real message. It is created automatically by the mail system software.
If deleted, important folder data will be lost, and it will be re-created
with the data reset to initial values.

from the folder and save to C:\{appropriate location}, restart Thunderbird, it appears ok. I think it is an oddity introduced by Pine at some stage, but I have no idea when.
Thanks anyway.
