Grrrrr

Hmph.
Leg cramps. Generally calf, generally right leg, generally turning up at ~5am.
Apparently fairly common in 2nd or 3rd trimester... Am finding the leg occassionally a bit sore for the rest of the day though.
Daily bananas not making any difference.
Grrrrrrr.
Suggestions?

NB: This is not a replacement for experienced medical advice - I will be mentioning it when I see midwife for monthly checkup on Fri morning in any case.

It's usually a sign of low magnesium. Calcium-magnesium supplements are best since the two need to be in balance. Ouchy!

Yes, could be magnesium. I get night-time leg cramps too (from ankylosing spondylitis, not pregnancy) and upping the magnesium uptake typically helps a little. Passionfruit and avocado are much higher in magnesium than banana, which is high in potassium. Anything leafy and green rich with chlorophyll is a good bet.

Supplements may not work for everyone (the poor bioavailability of many mineral supplements rendering them little more than expensive poo tablets) but YMMV. I have no idea what the RDI of magnesium during pregnancy is, but I imagine it's higher than for non-pregnant folks.

Glass of milk before bed was suggested in my day.

That makes sense in the light of the other comments above.
