Oh, and for those I haven't pointed this out to, I didn't get the cloud gazing job. Apparently I displayed "insufficient commitment" to cloudgazing, and they "didn't think I would fit in with the team", but they weren't willing to put these reasons or any further explanation in writing. Wonder what the reasons actually translate to (apart from me not selling myself well in interview situations)?

Found out the day after the interview (a couple weeks ago), but was being a somewhat upset/grumpy/angry/mopey bastard about it. Calmed down a bit now but still a little thin skinned and lible to rant easily.

So, anyone got any uses for a second hand astronomer?

That sucks. Bets that they had someone else lined up for it?

Don't kill anyone unless you can hide the bodies!

There were twelve places available... Though apparently some were going to Australian trainees - facing a shortage so training the opposition?

They probably wanted bouncy naive fresh graduate students whose only goal and lust in life was cloud gazing, and were willing to be exploited for the next ~5 years til they discover that they actually want a life/they don't have to be treated that way... or wish to continue to live/work like that.

Who, me cynical and bitter... never....

*They apparently have a 50% loss rate in the first 5 years and I would be interested in knowing what the actual reasons are....

Bugger. Sorry to hear it.
