This dress isn't actually that closely based on any of the Greenland gowns (closer to the 11th and 12th C tunics - Kragelund and Mosselund (? exact names and spelling - but are shown in "Woven into the Earth"), but is an interesting idea. Also check out some of the other stuff including some very cool Roman woman's hair styles (the plaits in the bun are very neat), and some interesting bone/antler stuff including pins and combs.
Lurking up in the clouds here. The cockatoos keep suddenly sweeping through with a mad cackle...
A brief recap of the weekend and associated looting.
Sat: YMCA monster garage sale at Yaralumla. Found bookcase, jar, kettle, wood, pottery pie plate, 2.3m long piece of burgandy (mostly) wool ($6:), brown wool, white cotton for practice victorian garments and patterns, duvet cover and pillowcases, pewter, hessian, and any other assorted junk I forgot... In the evening signed up with the ANU Film club and went and saw Hitchhikers Guide. Was interesting and better than I expected, but I wasn't expecting much. It had the dubious distinction of needing to forget most of what you knew about the books/TV/radio shows to enjoy, but needing to have read/seen/heard them to get a lot of it. Oh well. House of Flying Daggers next Sat (finger crossed subtitles) and Bride and Prejudice (and the 1940s Pride and Prejudice film) the following Sat*.
Sun: Trash and Treasure. Found copper long straight trumpet (Z had noticed last time and it was still there - perfect for hanging a banner off and processioning people into court IF you can get someone who can play it properly), basket, sewing book and some assorted tools.
Mon: Walked back from Uni over Black Mountain saddle in the evening. Was good and could make it in about 1 hour 10 min, even with the sunset about 30 min in. Again today planned, and for the foreseeable future, until the Stromlo bus timetable changes (Sept according to informed rumour), in which case will start walking in as well.
* Low odds of getting Zane to sit through that - may need to organise pick up and delivery...
